What makes it a “walkthrough”
The defining trait is that the viewer could follow along and do the same thing themselves. A walkthrough moves in order, one step at a time, with the cursor pointing at what matters and a voice explaining why. That’s what separates it from a highlight reel or a marketing sizzle video.
Where walkthrough videos are used
Onboarding new users or hires, customer support answers, internal “how we do X here” docs, feature announcements, and handing off work. They scale a good explanation: you record it once and reuse the link forever, instead of explaining the same thing live again and again.
How to record a good walkthrough
Cover one process per video, narrate as you click, and drop chapter markers so viewers can jump to the step they need. Keep it tight, and share a link rather than a file so it lives next to your docs and stays easy to update.
